There are some pretty cool things to see in Colorado and one of the staples is Mt Evans. We've talked about driving up it many times but haven't gotten it done yet. We finally decided to go this weekend since Papa was visiting and we had a good excuse to go. It was pretty awesome. The road up there is the highest paved road in the US, the summit is at 14,265 feet but the road doesn't go ALL the way to the summit, you have to hike up about the last 200 feet. Some perspective, there are 53 "14ers" in Colorado (those are peaks over 14,000 feet), they are all within a few hundred feet of each other. The tallest is 14,433 and Mt Evans is #14 on the list. The tallest peak in the lower 48 states is Mt. Whitney in California (we've seen it from Sequoia National Park) is 14,505, so Mt. Evans is pretty close. We all felt a little dizzy for a bit once we got there but it passed within probably 30 minutes, it was pretty crazy. We did see several people not fairing quite so well with the altitude. It's insane to think the Mt. Everest is more than two Mt. Evans stacked on top of each other!

Here's the fam with the background looking out to the northwest.
Here's Landon with the background looking out to the northeast.
Some mountain goats. In the first pic there is one sheep, bonus points if you can pick him out!
For some the highlight of the trip might have been this, a test car out for...well, at test! We have seen these before, I think Colorado is kind of a hotspot for these but there were tons yesterday, all of them Mercedes, and with the recent Top Gear obsession at our house it was all very timely.
We know you all would love to visit Mt Evans, we'd love take you but you have to visit in the SUMMER! This is when all the cool stuff is available in Colorado.
