Owen

This kid has aged me more in the last two weeks than the other two have their entire lives, combined! A couple of weeks ago one night while I was making dinner the kids were playing around running in and out the back door. I got dinner on the table and called everyone to come. The other two came and I asked where Owen was, they didn’t know, of course and Mark was busy on the computer in the basement. I asked him if Owen was down there, no, he wasn’t. I go outside and look for him, not there. Now I’m starting to panic, I run inside, tell the boys to look for him and start searching every room. Nowhere to be found. I open the door to the garage (because he has been obsessed with going out there lately) and my heart sinks because the garage door is open and I’m thinking this kid has taken off down the street. So I run out into the driveway look up and down the street but don’t see him. I turn back to look at the front door of the house and he’s in the garage by the van. WHEW!

Then last week he was outside playing in the backyard. I had the door open and window open so I could hear him and I would go check on him every 5-10 minutes to see what he was up to. I got caught up in folding laundry and it had probably been 10 minutes since I checked on him when there’s a knock at the door. I open it and there’s a nice lady with my boy, she asks if he lives here and says she found him wandering down the sidewalk in the open space! The gate to get out of the backyard is now locked.

Then last night as I was getting his jammies on I notice him digging at his nose and see what appears to be a booger in there. I get a tissue to dig it out and out comes a popcorn kernel! Okay. We continue getting ready for bed and he's still digging at his nose when out comes ANOTHER kernel! At this point I decide I better get a flashlight and assess how many more he has up in there. I see another one and after some more inventive measures than just a tissue we get it out. But I think we better take one more look and he's got one seriously stuck way up in the other side, we can barely see it. After 45 minutes of trying everything we can think of it still won't come out so we just put him to bed. This morning I called the doctor and they told me to take him to urgent care. It was starting to bug him anyway so I figured we might as well go. A couple of hours, some paperwork and one cool little tool later he is kernel free and I hope he remembers the trauma of trying to get that thing out!

I need a vacation.

He is so cute my little Bronk was sitting here smiling at his picture. There is nothing that will make your heart sink than a child gone missing. Little stinkers! They are so busy. I was laughing at the popcorn kernals. That is scary though. My little guy heads for the horses when we are outside and he thinks its so funny. Thank goodness for guardian angels that help us with these little ones.
